And drums and an irrepressible passion for life lie at the centre of this unique musical development. Ongoma, a group of talented musicians based in Windhoek, Namibia, honors this, respecting the customs of our ancestors while re-inventing contemporary African music on a variety of different, exciting platforms.

Starting with nothing but raw talent, dedication and a handful of drums,
Ongoma has grown from a traditional African Percussion and
A Cappella ensemble to a popular entertainment group with an ever extending repertoire of original
compositions. Drawing on the rich musical history of southern Africa the group has added more
instruments to deepen its sound, drawing on an ever widening pool of musicians.
Our philosophy is simple: music is our culture; it is
the vehicle to express ourselves and feed our families. Our destination is to take our rightful
position on the world stage.
Over the past few years Africa and African music has moved more and more into international main stream focus. Drumming in Africa has always been an integral part of African pastoral life celebrating life, love and unity. Because rhythm is a universal language, our 'mother tongue', drumming creates a unity that transcends the barriers of culture, gender, age, religion and hierachy. Anyone can drum. If your heart is beating you have rhythm!
Performance Drumming
Ongoma has enthralled audiences through out Namibia on numerous performances and shows and has established itself well on the market. Ongoma's core drummers hail from respected musical backgrounds and can be hired for private or public performances.
